Alan Shero is a photographer from Athens, Alabama. He first became interested in photography as a student in high school, photographing his friends skateboarding. After graduating from high school his interest in photography continued to grow. He later began working as a darkroom technician and photographer for a business in Huntsville, Alabama. In 2004 he received his degree in photography and film communications from Calhoun College. Over the past several years his work has been displayed in several galleries and exhibits and can be found in a number of public and private collections.

Shero works primarily in black white. Most of his work features the landscapes of northern Alabama and Tennessee, however he does not limit himself strictly to landscape photography. Shero’s work tends to focus on more intimate details of the landscape as opposed to the “grand landscape”. He works with 35mm, medium and large format, depending on the location and conditions. Shero’s prints are produced in a traditional black and white darkroom. Each image is hand printed then toned in selenium. Shero has also recently assembled a portfolio of color work featuring images from the southwest United States and the Appalachian Mountains.
