AHS Design was born in April 2008 after an intense period of learning the craft of jewelry making. I think I have always been a designer, however, though the art of design has taken many forms in my life. I have always loved jewelry and collected it for many years. It seems a special gift to now have the time and opportunity to create wearable art of my own.

Before this venture, I taught landscape architecture in a university and often emphasized the principles of design in my classes. Now I apply these to the jewelry that I create. The overall design should be balanced; it should exhibit a rhythmic movement or repetition; its scale and proportion should be appropriate; it should have a particular emphasis or a focal point; and the final design should have a visual unity. In fact, these same principles are applicable to any art form!

I love color and pattern and the harmonious interaction that can be achieved when colors and patterns combine to create a whole. This is just as true of a necklace as it is of a garden. Sometimes I think of my jewelry as miniature gardens and sometimes I dream a jewelry design just as I used dream garden designs!
