I have been hooked on photography since I was about 12 years old. I am completely self-taught, and enjoy learning new techniques. I use both digital and traditional film cameras to create my work, and I enjoy working with photo editing software to create photo collages and altered photographs. I am also excited to have started a local portrait business, Allie Cavender Photography, in the fall of 2008.

Photography has become a major part of my life; I am never without my camera. I enjoy capturing fleeting moments and images that are interesting and meaningful to me, and sharing them with others. The challenge of getting the right angle, and finding that perfect light and composition bring me joy. My inspiration comes from the amazing beauty of nature and the spontaneity, joy and innocence of children.

Trained as a pediatrician, I am currently a stay-at-home mom of our four incredible children. This career change has given me the opportunity to pursue my passion for photography. I am amazed at the ability of photographs to evoke emotion, and strive to do that with my work. Taking photos and creating beautiful art makes me feel peaceful, happy, home.
