Catherine Dominick, BFA is a Birmingham and France-based artist who studied painting under Professor Alvin Sella at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.  Upon completion of her education Dominick became involved with local art as Space One Eleven’s art education coordinator (also acting as liaison to ARTWALK’s Kidzone in 2004 & 2005) and currently as a member of Alabama Art Supply’s staff.

Dominick spends her time between Birmingham and her second home in Bar-sur-Loup, a quaint village in the south of France.  While in Bar-sur-Loup she travels throughout Europe and studies first hand the great masters of modern art.

In May of 2008, Dominick made her international debut in Grasse, France as the first American artist to show at Place de la Poissonnerie.  For this solo show, Dominick created nine large format abstract nude paintings and was featured in the Nice-Matin, a national publication.              In the fall of 2008 Dominick was invited by curator Clayton Colvin to show with her former professor Sella at his “Recent Paintings Exhibit” in Mobile, Alabama.  Currently, Dominick is in the process of completing paintings both nonobjective and figurative to be shown at Loretta Goodwin Art Gallery this summer.

Past local art exhibit participation includes:

                        2003 ARTWALK

                        2003, 2004 & 2009 Art in Avondale Park

                        2004 & 2005 Space One Eleven

Dominick’s love of travel, nature and the human figure keeps her art forever changing.  She continues to strive for improvement and inspiration.  Colors change as the seasons come and go but the subjects continue to evoke the colorful whimsy of Bonnard, Chagall and Matisse.  Catherine’s art predominantly consists of acrylic on canvas and ranges from mixed media drawings from life on paper to watercolor and photography allowing her international inspirations to be brought back to Birmingham.

“The choice of bright colors and playful but bold outlines portray the unpredictable personalities that women so often possess.”
