It all began with a bucket of KILZ®.  Repeated applications by parents to mask works of art created on a toddler’s bedroom walls where ballpoint pens and crayons were the mediums of choice. Since those early murals, drawing, painting and design have been the fundamental and intrinsic elements of my life, affording me both fulfillment and my livelihood. As I approached college, I decided to pursue a degree and career in graphic design. Currently serving as Art Director for both Portico magazine and Flower magazine, I have always continued to cultivate my first love of painting. Over the years my style and subject matters have evolved and changed–I am currently fascinated with more abstract forms, letting the paint tell its own story through shape, color and composition. I work in both oils and acrylics, employing each to react according to their character, working paint back into the oils, or letting the acrylics dictate their own shapes and textures. Using brushes, knives, fingers and paper towels to apply paint, I start with an initial concept which typically evolves into something else I had not planned for the paint, but is clearly better for the piece. With composition as my focus, the layers take shape and form the finished work.
