All works are individually hand-made from beginning to end. Dry clay is mixed in a five gallon bucket and allowed to dry to the optimum consistency on plaster bats, and then wedged by hand to remove any air bubbles. Slabs are then rolled by using a home-made rolling pin and ¼” wooden spacers. I then cut pieces from the slabs using a wide variety of original cardboard templates as a guide. I allow the clay to become leather-hard before carefully beveling the edges to be joined. The joins are scored, slipped and deliberately pinched together along the seams. The plethora of colors is obtained using a variety of techniques, base color comes from the use or application of multicolored englobes, and underglazes. The pieces are bisque fired and then clear and colored glazes are applied by spraying. Glazes of one hue are applied to englobe or underglaze of complimentary or contrasting hue. All glazes are of my own personal recipe.
