I am originally from Birmingham. After a 10 year leave of absence, which included getting an MFA from the University of Illinois in Champaign and a move to the Czech Republic, I found myself back in my hometown. Perhaps it is the stirring of fond memories of childhood that has drawn me to make images of my old Barbie dolls or the fact that I have worked as a photo stylist in fashion off and on for the last 10 years. It is probably both. The subject matter and materials are just vehicles that I manipulate in order to create. What I hope for as an artist is the intangible element that appears in spite of my choices, which I could never have imagined otherwise.
