Painting [Irondale, AL]
2318 1st Avenue North: The Avenues
I graduated in Fine Arts in The Czech Republic.
The oil paints were my first medium I used to embark on painting on canvas.
My first solo exhibition was held in the Czech Republic in 1995 and was devoted to the African culture. Their colorful and vivid ornaments and color contrast in their faces stayed with me for another five years of exhibiting.
In the course of 1996-1999 I dedicated the creativity to design interiors as well as exteriors in the Czech Republic and ran my own business by doing so.
2000 became as a breakthrough year for me, since I made my first trip abroad from the post-communist country. I carried out three mural projects within UCLA campus during my short stay and returned to the Czech Republic.
It wasn’t until 2004, I decided to enhance my inspiration and artistic devotion in New Zealand where I eventually settled down for two years.
New Zealand yielded a lot of opportunities for me to exhibit and be part of the artistic scene “down under” and I shortly earned a membership in The NZ Art Guild.
I shared my enthusiasm and joy of painting in a number of group art shows, National Art Exhibition & Sale, Art Feast, The Original Art Sale, Wellington Art Expo, NZ Artwalk, to name some.
The past three years I immersed deeper into YOGA and its philosophy, which strongly influences me and manifests in my paintings.
My other projects include mosaics I create for meditation and ecoscape gardens.
Technique: Layer painting
Combination of oil paints with acrylics in layers. The acrylics provide a great basic coat, on which, it’s a delight to build upon another layer of details and then efface some areas by oils.
Materials: rub leaves, stone pebbles, sea glass pieces
Rub leaves impart a subtlety and organic element into a painting. I often use a Bodhi leaf which is a symbol of a supreme knowledge and The Buddha’s enlightenment.
Each picture is complemented by an unusual “frame” of pebbles or sea glass pieces that underscore the natural material sources I draw from.
Inspiration:
Each place I’ve traveled within last 7 years was a wonderful inspiration to me. The Maori culture in New Zealand, exotic Costa Rica, Virgin Islands etc. Those inspirations still are rather ephemeral. My grand permanent inspiration, that is also my lifestyle, is YOGA and it’s wisdom, ancient scriptures and treatises.
