I recently graduated from The University of Montevallo with a BFA in Printmaking and Painting.  My current body of work consists of screen-printing, relief, and mainly intaglio etching techniques. The print medium has a rich history of reproducible and illustrative images, which originally drew me to the process. I prize the notion that a picture is a puzzle. Rather than merely drawing a recognizable image that depicts a blatant scene or idea, I draw to create tension and juxtaposition among elements.  The result is images that are perplexing - demanding an interpretation without providing one.

I use symbols and themes that generically crop up from culture to culture; things that have inherent mythic meaning - natural elements such as trees, fruit, animals, and the human figure. A theme that reoccurs in my work is the beautiful tension between the metaphoric and the literal - which is at often play here in the 'Bible belt.'

I create formal ambiguities:  tree's that evoke serpentine forms and, in subtle shape and texture, evoke the human figure.  All of this creates a distinct non-descript narrative that aids in my exploration of humanities relation to the world and asks for a reinterpretation of religious and spiritual concepts that in many ways define the archetypal conflicts of man vs. man, himself, and nature.
