I work with many different mediums for their texture, color, and their drying patterns. I usually work straight from the container the medium comes in because I usually don’t work with a brush. I work mainly with tempera paint for its drying characteristics, but also work with acrylics, oils, and nontraditional mediums like caulk, silicone, plasters, glue, and other textural mediums.

Texture is usually a major part of my work because I sense that with any emotion, there are several layers, bumps, crevasses, and cracks that are layered together that make up a feeling or thought. The same is true for my use of color, which is usually quite intense and is a vital part of my work. My latest series titled “Escape” is created by layering latex caulk and tempera paint. I developed this process because the caulk acts as a trapping barrier that holds in the colors that represents different emotions which in life are sometimes trapped inside oneself and are sometimes fighting to escape, which is also represented in this series.
