I have been a photographer for seven years now. My passion for photography began while studying art at The University of Montevallo. During my first semester of college I quickly discovered that a camera was a much better tool for me than a pencil or paintbrush. Photography was to me, the most honest art form. I haven’t put my camera away since.
The majority of my work from college was focused on alternative printing processes. During the summer of 2005, I traveled to Italy and Greece. From this trip, I produced some of my strongest images. This trip inspired me to produce photographs that were beautiful for what they were, and not what they could become. I re-discovered my love for photography. I realized that I had been spending more energy on altering images than focusing on the content.
Since graduating in December of 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, I have been building several bodies of work. These bodies of work include Travel, Minimalism and Portraits. As the photographer, I am taking on a different role for each of these bodies of work. In my travel images, I am an outsider, observing and documenting. With minimalism photography, I am taking images based only on color, composition and texture. As a portrait photographer, I am an insider, a friend capturing an honest reaction or emotion.
I have found that I need photography, as a way to make me pause and pay attention to the world around me. I want to do the same for my viewer. I want to allow them to appreciate a place they’ve never been, or re-examine something familiar. I find new inspiration everyday and just want to share what I see.
