Shredded

color paintings

Made from three years worth of shredded graduate school paintings.

Re-organized by color, the strips are all hand laid one by one - similar to hardwood flooring, visually echoing a pixilated image. These shredded pieces are my direct reaction to homeland security and identity theft issues, while pondering the power of creation through destruction.

Pieces of cut vinyl were used to make the images on canvas. Considering Birmingham’s violent background, depictions are of thoughts on how important contrast is in this world -  aesthetically, intellectually, physically, culturally and spiritually; Considering Birmingham’s violent background
