Mixed Media [Birmingham, AL]
2213 Morris Avenue: Morris Avenue Group
I was born in Birmingham, AL in 1984. From 1998 to 2006, I was an art student and my work was shown at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Birmingham-Southern College. Following graduation, I showed my work at Moss Rock Festival. As I begin my career, I hope to contribute to Birmingham’s art community.
I believe art is a powerful social mechanism which can catalyze shifts of awareness in the viewer. My art is not meant to transmit specific visions but rather a way of seeing. That is, to see beauty in the commonplace and the extraordinary in the mundane. I try to record the spiritual beauty which I feel is inherent in everyday life.
My work is two dimensional mixed media, primarily ink and acrylic. My background is in drawing and my work retains a strong linear quality. My subject matter focuses on people and animals, as I believe their images have the most to say. I am influenced by Inka Essenhigh, Alex Grey, Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Hiroshige, Hindu art, comic books, Dadism, and Japanes woodblock prints.
