I enjoy printing, photography, collage and pottery, but painting is my favorite.

I am often inspired by t he landscape of Maine, although I lived in the city of Birmingham for 18 years, so I can appreciate the distinctive qualities of different environments. I often begin with a sketch or photograph that I have taken, draw freehand on canvas and begin painting a realistic landscape which abstracts expressively and reorders the landscape’s components. The subject can be large or small but the point for me is to view it and help the viewer see another way to look. This can be a mountain or a compost pile.

I want to follow what seems to me to be rhythms already found in nature, and that can also include the rhythms of human life. I apply this view and technique to all of my designs and constructions.

An artist all of my life, I have lived and been educated in American Studies, Art Studio and Art History in the Midwest, In Alabama and in Maine.
